The Romance of Pluto and Charon, inspired by Pluto and its moon Charon, who are locked in orbit with one another; always circling, always facing each other. Neither ever truly leaves the other’s gaze. I have always believed that in real love, we are all equals. Unlike the moon circling the earth in its one sided infatuation, they move through the vast emptiness of space as equals, and truly, they are together forever. As much as our world is made up of a series of coincidences, and everything seems to point towards total randomness, there is still hope for fate. Maybe some connections are simply too unlikely to be explained away by chance alone. Maybe, somewhere amidst the chaos, there are things that are meant to find each other, no matter how vast the distance or how endless the journey.
Khushi (b. 2005, Bareilly, India) is an Indian artist and writer based in Bareilly. She graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, in 2026. Working primarily through painting, drawing and mixed media, her practice investigates feminist theory, horror and mythology as tools for confronting systems of power, memory and identity. Drawing from personal experiences, family folklore and literary narratives, her work explores the intersections of gender, the body and culture. Using the visual language of the grotesque, abjection and speculative fiction, she reimagines mythological and folkloric figures to question patriarchal structures and the social construction of femininity. Her practice is driven by experimentation with unconventional materials, narratives and symbolic imagery, creating a space where horror becomes both a mode of resistance and a means of reclaiming agency. Her most recent project, (Autopsy) MOTHER, examines performative femininity and female roles within patriarchal India. Through the embodiment of the Hindu goddess Maa Kali, the series mobilizes the grotesque feminine to challenge expectations surrounding womanhood, motherhood and female identity and sexuality. Transforming the monstrous into a being of empowerment rather than fear.
Serpa (Coração do Vale) was developed from visual research into the olive groves and agricultural landscape of Coração do Vale, located in Serpa, in the Guadiana region of Alentejo. Rather than reproducing a stereotypical image of Alentejo as an arid and sunburnt territory, the work seeks to emphasize the distinct ecological character of this area, marked by a greener, more fertile landscape shaped by the proximity of the Guadiana River. Working from a combination of photographic references and imagined reconstruction, I composed a bucolic countryside scene with a centenary olive tree in the foreground. The tree reflects the cultural, economic and historical significance of olive oil production, but also acts as a visual threshold through which the viewer enters the warm sunset scene. In line with my broader practice, the painting is built upon a vivid underpainting composed of warm, saturated tones – particularly bright oranges and reds – that evoke the heat, luminosity and sensory memory of southern Portugal. This chromatic base emerges through the upper layers of the painting, contributing to an atmosphere of warmth, serenity and harmony.
Sara Alves (b. 2000, Lisbon) is a Portuguese artist living and working between Poland and Portugal. Sara’s artistic work is primarily situated within landscape painting, figurative art and neo-surrealism. Her practice is rooted in painting and drawing, occasionally expanding into other media. Her landscape project emphasizes the use of color and underpainting to explore themes of inhabiting a place and wandering through landscapes as a form of embodied travel. Working mainly with oil pastels, she uses an underpainting technique built from bright colors layered beneath her compositions, evoking influences from her Portuguese background alongside the environments she encounters. Her projects span multiple locations, including Portugal (mainland and islands), Poland and Cabo Verde. In parallel, she develops a neo-surrealist project-based approach, focused on social critique.
